CAPTAIN FANTASTIC analysis 1

Captain Fantastic opening and ending scene analysis The scene starts with long establishing shot on an empty landscape with no location, no people, no music only with diegetic background sounds of the nature-water, birds. The forest looks very beautiful, peaceful, and light. The masculinity introduction starts straight away, scary and violent, as in the scene we see a man killing a deer. The audience doesn't feel sympathy with characters so there is no allegiance with anyone. When the scene reveals more people and costumes, the main focus is still on Bo (the boy who killed the deer) so the audience is in alignment with him. We are given a nice framing of Bo and Ben having a talk about Bo becoming man from boy by killing an animal. As we see Bo's ambiguous feelings we are still in alignment with his character because we might have a similar feeling. La Jetée (Chris Marker) La Jetée is a french short movie from 1962 and it's a science fiction. The sci-fi atmosphere creates mainly time travelling of humans, into the past and future. Also the post nuclear war, hiding in underground, the use of science equipment and the experiment as a whole connected with narrative follows the genre of sci-fi. Film form- there is not lot of things to be told about the film form as the movie is made as a photo-montage of still photos following each other in order to the narrator's voice. The movie is also black and white colours and as I already mentioned there is only narrator's voice heard throughout the movie. Narrative of the story begins with its ending but in the end we understand things that were vague at the beginning. Trainspotting: Themes and binary opposites Transpotting at the first sight looks like a movie mainly about heroine and its consequences but later the audience finds out that it's much more than that and can be seen from different perspectives of viewing. Here the themes occur which completes the ideology of the film that are for example family, drugs, friendship, betrayal, toxicity (masculinity), life, escape, ambiguity. We can say that drugs is one of the main themes of the movie as the protagonist Renton and all other characters are addicted to heroine and we can see them using it quite often. Friendship of the characters develops throughout the movie as the summary expands and so characters and their point of views changes, at the beginning they are all together but as it continues we see some of the characters don't hold together and in the end they become more separated and Renton realises he doesn't want to be with them anymore.
